Job Description

Our client is a successful food company that owns a global food brand, which brought innovative products to consumers, building on its original success with popular, high-demand items. Committed to delivering healthy, sustainable, and customized food solutions, they are now expanding its R&D capabilities in Europe and seeks an experienced professional to lead this new endeavor in food innovation.

The location is yet to be decided but will either be in Amstelveen or Wageningen. 

Responsibilities:

As a Strategy Lead, you will drive strategic initiatives within the Plant-Based Protein division based in the Netherlands and will report to an R&D Director based in the Netherlands. This role will involve leading efforts in the alternative protein market, leveraging expertise in food science, biotechnology, and strategic planning to foster growth in the plant-based sector.

Strategic Planning & Execution:

  • Develop and implement short- and long-term strategies for plant-based protein initiatives
  • Identify strategic investment opportunities and partnerships that support business objectives
  • Manage project roadmaps and oversee execution plans

Market Intelligence & Business Development:

  • Conduct in-depth market analysis and trend forecasting within the plant-based food sector
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and drive their execution
  • Track competitor activities and industry trends to guide strategic decisions

Cross-functional Leadership:

  • Partner closely with the R&D Center Head to align research goals with market demands
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams, ensuring integration across marketing, R&D, and other key areas
  • Contribute to critical decision-making processes within the Business Unit

Innovation Management:

  • Champion innovation in plant-based protein technology and applications
  • Guide the development of new product categories, ensuring alignment with market trends
  • Ensure that product innovation meets consumer demands

Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for plant-based protein projects
  • Regularly update senior management with progress reports and strategic insights

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in strategic planning and business development within the food industry, ideally focused on plant-based proteins
  • Strong background in food science or biotechnology
  • Proven success in developing and implementing business strategies
  • Extensive knowledge of global plant-based food markets and emerging trends
  • Exceptional leadership skills and experience in managing cross-functional teams
  • Fluent in English; Dutch language skills are an advantage
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Food Science, Biotechnology, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Previous experience in strategic consulting is a plus
